GDL Network expects a ‘Spike' in demand at the Build Show!

PRESS RELEASE

7 October 2016

The Build Show, 18-20 October, NEC Birmingham

GDL Network expects a ‘Spike' in demand for its new laser measuring solution plus related products at the Build Show!

Digital print specialist group GDL Network is expecting a high level of interest in the new Spike laser measuring device from visitors to the Build Show this year.

The Spike laser measurement tool is ideal for site surveys and estimations as it allows users to measure an object simply by taking a photo with their smartphone or tablet. From that photo users can capture real-time measurements by using the Spike mobile app or Spike Cloud.

Managing Director Jim Vaughan explained: "While we're excited to be showcasing the Spike, it's just one of a great range of products that we'll be highlighting that make up the bigger picture in printing.

"We'll be taking visitors through the entire workflow from input through the Spike, through processing using a Big Pad or HP Sprout workstation, to output through a 3D Makerbot printer, a HP Designjet T3500 production level wide format printer or dedicated print services, plus our own Cascade Crossmedia campaign software."

The GDL Network members at the show, including theEntwistle Group; John E Wright; MinprintandPinders, all have many years' experience in supporting the AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) industry.

Jason Richards of theEntwistle Groupwhich has bases in Manchester, Bradford, Middleton and Warrington, said: "We're particularly excited about taking the Spike to the show - it's a brand new piece of kit that has been well received wherever it's been shown across the world. It's not only easy to use, it also keeps costs down and facilitates faster site surveys and a quicker turnaround for quotes.

"CAD plan printing has always been at the centre of what we do. We still operate large format digital plan copiers at all of our branches and we can also provide in-house printing solutions or supply print devices, technical support services and competitively priced consumables to enhance your work flow on site."

Duncan Baker fromJohn E Wright, which has bases in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Coventry, Oxford and Hull added: "We're delighted to be showing the Makerbot Replicator Z18 3D printer this year. We've been working with AEC clients for many years and this is one of the most exciting developments we've seen.

"Where architects used to just present paper plans and drawings they can now offer the extra ‘wow' factor of a 3D image of a project, and can even create sublayers to show the foundations, plumbing, electrics and so on.

"It's easy to do as a lot of the files they use to create the renders are 3D print-ready, without adding to the workload."

Jamie Mcminnis ofMinprintin Belfast added: "As a specialist print provider, we'll be focusing on highlighting the incredible range of substrates we can now print on to. With our range of litho, digital and large format printing we've got it covered.

"We can handle all safety signage and hoardings, plus both indoor and outdoor applications on a range of materials including PVC, mesh PVC, printed display boards, stands and frames. Basically, we can print anything a customer asks for.

"With a print fleet capable of delivering on requests ranging from marketing materials to signage, hoardings or even building wraps, we can provide a one-stop-shop for anyone in the AEC industry."

David Whiteway fromPindersin Sheffield, which also offers 3D printing alongside their comprehensive digital print site, concluded: "AEC is a competitive industry and we strive to meet all our customers' needs, including bid packs and 3D printing to support pitches. And with our ‘Big Print' section, our super-wide printing press can print directly onto material two metres wide and long enough to wrap around a building. Big Print can also print onto rigid materials including wood, steel and glass.

"As print specialists our services have also evolved as the demands of clients grow. As well as providing wide format print and scanning, our creative team offers mailing and commercial e-mail, design, internet marketing and GDL Network's own Cascade Crossmedia campaign software to complete the marketing and communications package."
