New book: Drawn From History - A cartoon journey through Britain's past

Good morning,
We are working with cartoonist James Mellor on the release of his new book -
Drawn From History: A Cartoon Journey Through Britain's Past due for publication at the end of this month (October 25th) by Filament Publishing. We are expecting hot off the press advance copies to land on our desks any day now so please let us know if you'd like to see one before the rest of the crowd! The book will officially be available for sale in all the major bookshops and online (including Amazon of course!) for the grand sum of £9.99. This makes a fabulous and thoughtful gift for anyone with a passion for history and/or a penchant for humour and cartoons. From the end of the Ice Age to the dawn of the 21st century, James captures a selection of the nation's most significant episodes (and some other, slightly less significant but rather amusing episodes) with a humorous sideways slant.

James Mellor is available for commissions (cartoons and words!) and interviews. The books can be requested for review and competition prizes. Images and more press information can be found in the online press folder: http://bit.ly/2dnrHkZ.

Kind regards, Helen Lewis, Director, Literally PR Ltd

ADVANCE INFORMATION SHEET

Drawn From History: A Cartoon Journey Through Britain's Past

By James Mellor

Drawn From History is a cartoon journey through Britain's past. Cartoonist James Mellor traces the story of Britain from the end of the Ice Age to the dawn of the Twenty-First Century and captures a selection of the nation's most significant episodes (and some of the other, slightly less significant happenings) with a humorous sideways slant. Unashamedly drawn with twenty-twenty hindsight and through a modern lens, his single panel line drawings recreate and reimagine events from across ten historical periods including Ancient Britain, The Tudors and The Victorians.

"I love this book, bringing history to life through cartoons is genius." --Greg Wallace, television presenter (Masterchef) and military history fan

James Mellor's cartoons look for the bright side of dark times and the absurd side of the happy times in settings beloved by those with a passion for History and familiar to all of us from our school days. His work simultaneously pokes fun at the past whilst celebrating it and provides an entertaining opportunity for readers to engage with History.

About the Author

[image]James Mellor is a freelance writer and cartoonist. James launched James Mellor Creative in 2012 to help people turn their ideas into usable, engaging and memorable content. The business is built around his three areas of expertise - research, writing and cartoon illustration - deployed either independently or in combination. In these areas, he has worked with large institutions, SMEs, startups and individuals to get their unique messages across in print, online and via social media. Those who follow @jamesdfmellor on Twitter will be aware that historical figures and events often creep into his cartoon commentaries of the day's events and his illustrations are popular with teachers as resources for history lessons. There are rumours that his pictures are popular with their students too. A History graduate from the University of York, James has always possessed a passion for the past. Drawn From History is James' first book and has allowed him to fully deploy his professional cartooning ability in his favourite setting, viewing Britain's past with a sharp, sideways slant.

James lives in Rushden, Northamptonshire with his wife Rachel and a small, sociopathic cat.
