LINCOLN CHILDREN'S CHOIR STAND UP TO CANCER

PRESS RELEASE

28th September 2016

LINCOLN CHILDREN’S CHOIR SING THEIR HEARTS OUT AS THEY STAND UP TO CANCER

-Song officially launched at fundraising ball on Saturday
1st October 2016 -

A children’s choir and a group of fundraisers are hoping to sing their way to success as they launch a new single to raise money to fight cancer.

The children’s choir from Millfield Primary Academy in Lincoln were asked to sing alongside by a fundraising ladies group, known as The Cancer Fighters, who have already raised over £50k for Cancer Research UK through fundraising events, t-shirt sales and a charity single.

The ladies, who have all been touched personally by cancer, have also teamed up with this year’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign to promote a NATIONAL non uniform day, after they successfully involved 12,000 Lincolnshire children in 2015 in a local non uniform day.

Amelia Bailey, the founder of The Cancer Fighters said: “We are keen to work with children as they are the future. We want the next generation to grow up in a world where cancer is not a scary word anymore. It’s a positive step to educate children as to how they can make healthy choices in life, have awareness of cancer and be involved in raising vital funds for the ground-breaking cancer treatments that will transform lives in the UK. One day, our children will grow up in a world where all cancer is curable.

“I saw the Children’s choir perform and was so impressed by them, so I approached the school who were very supportive from the outset. I liaised with SU2C who were writing lesson and assembly plans promoting good health and from there I knew we should be working together to combine the song and our non-uniform day alongside SU2C’s national schools campaign. We are now working in partnership with SU2C who have included our story in their National school packs, asking schools to join us in a National Non Uniform Day as one fundraising option, following our hugely successful Lincolnshire Non Uniform Day which raised an enormous £12,000.”

Amelia went on to say: “On the day of the song recording, the children arrived at Insonic Recording Studios to perform the song, and they were amazing, they sang like angels and loved every second of it. Then when we filmed the video later the same day, they were like seasoned professionals, they took it all in their stride, there were no signs of nerves and they didn’t stop smiling.”

The single “We are the Cancer Fighters” has been written for The Children’s Choir & The Cancer Fighters by renowned song writer Robert Puzey who has written for Billy Ocean, The Nolan’s and The Dooley’s.  The video also features the doctors and nurses from the Lincoln County Hospital Oncology Department.

Cancer survivor Amelia Bailey, who started The Cancer Fighters after she and other members of her family were all diagnosed with cancer, said: “Cancer affects 1 in 2 of us, people need to join the fight so all of us can live world where all cancer is curable.”

“We are The Cancer Fighters” will be officially launched on 1st October at The Cancer Fighters fundraising Ball in Lincoln.   The single is available for download from Sat 1st October on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play.

All proceeds from single sales will go to Stand Up To Cancer.
