A Musical End To The Year for Pitlochry Festival Theatre

A Musical End To The Year for Pitlochry Festival Theatre

I thought you may be interested in running a story on Pitlochry Festival Theatre's autumn / winter season of musicals. Para Handy will run from 27th October to 13th November and will be followed by Scrooge, The Musical from 2nd to 23rd December.

It's an exciting time at PFT with some new appointments about to be announced, a UK tour and the upcoming ceremony for the UK Theatre Awards. (PFT are a finalist in the Most Welcoming Theatre in the UK).

I'd be delighted to chat to you further should you be interested in running an editorial piece around PFT.   Please do drop me a line or give me a call should you have any questions - 01738 636888 or 07983505716.

Kind regards,

Nicola Martin

Following a hugely successful summer programme (27 May - 15 October 2016) including a much applauded adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, Carousel, Pitlochry Festival Theatre will bring 2016 to an end with a further two musical productions.

This autumn, the award-winning theatre in the hills will bring the warm tales of Scotland's much loved Para Handy to life in a play with songs, stories, a ceilidh and cake.

Audiences will set sail with the irrepressible captain of The Vital Spark and his ramshackle crew - mate Dougie, engineer Macphail and cabin-boy Sunny Jim - as they travel from a West Coast breakers' yard to the sea lochs of the Highlands and Islands.

Memorably adapted for television in the 1990s with Gregor Fisher and Rikki Fulton, Neil Munro's marvellous, mischievous stories have never been out of print since they first appeared in the Glasgow Evening News in 1906.

Warm, witty and coal-fired with charm, this rare chance to enjoy the hilarious misadventures of Para Handy live on stage is accompanied by a rousing, foot-stomping musical score.  Much the same as the theatre's hugely successful Whisky Galore, the show's ceilidh tunes will be performed by the versatile ensemble of actor-musicians.

Para Handy will be closely followed by Scrooge: The Musical, this year's Christmas Show offering.

This festive musical, based on Dickens` much-loved A Christmas Carol, started life as the memorable 1970 film starring Albert Finney before transferring to the stage. The Scottish première production - featuring a large cast and live band, spectacular sets and costumes, and spooky special effects - promises to be one of the most memorable Christmas musicals ever staged at PFT.

Christmas Eve, 1843: the cruel money-lender Ebenezer Scrooge is confronted by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who warns Scrooge that he faces damnation unless he mends his ways. Can Scrooge be redeemed?  All will be decided by the three spirits who visit him in the course of the night.

With a scintillating score by Lesley Bricusse, whose credits include Pickwick, Dr. Dolittle and Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, the show features the wonderful Thank You Very Much, I Hate People and the classic Sing A Christmas Carol.

ENDS/.

NOTES FOR PRESS:

  • It is Para Handy's cast of actors who will be playing the instruments on stage, with an additional two extra musicians completing the ceilidh band.

  • Pitlochry Festival's Theatre's autumn show successes in the past few years include the much heralded Whisky Galore and The Steamie with White Christmas a favourite among their Christmas Show audiences.

  • PFT is currently shortlisted as a finalist for the Most Welcoming Theatre in the UK in the UK Theatre Awards.

  • Last year they were voted by the general public as the National Winner for Scotland in the UK Theatre Awards
