Oregon Forklift Driver to Compete for International Award

An Oregon man has beaten hundreds of other entries from across three continents to reach the finals of the International Forklift Operator of the Year 2016 award.

Chuck Long, who works at Boise Cascade in Portland, will be travelling to the UK to demonstrate his knowledge, skill and understanding of safe lift truck operation in the next round of the competition.  The live finals will take place at IMHX (International Materials Handling Exhibition) 2016 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK from 13th – 16th September, where up to 20,000 people are expected to attend.

Chuck, 60 from Summerville, Oregon, is no stranger to forklift competitions, winning the Blue Mountain Forklift Roundup in Pendleton, Oregon, earlier this year.  As just one of 40 contestants still in the running to be crowned International Forklift Operator of the Year Award 2016, Chuck is hoping to repeat this success at the forthcoming competition.

The award is hosted by UK-based RTITB, the preferred regulatory body for workplace transport training, and aims to find, recognize and reward the very best forklift operator in the world.

Laura Nelson, Managing Director of RTITB, congratulated Chuck on his success. “This is a very prestigious award, so to reach the finals you have to prove you are ’the best of the best’. Chuck scored highly in the first round online test and thoroughly deserves to be competing in the finals with his peers from around the world.”

The finals of the RTITB International Forklift Operator of the Year 2016, hosted with partners UniCarriers and McCue, take place in the Competition Zone, Hall 9A40 at IMHX at the NEC, Birmingham, UK from 13th - 16th September 2016. Competitors will be put through their paces with four tests, two driving tests sponsored by Dolav, Racking & Storage Solutions Ltd and Pyroban. A theory test sponsored by Transaid and pre-use inspection test sponsored by TruckLOG-Davis Derby.
