While Stafford basked in a mini-heatwave last week, employees at the area's
leading housing association rolled up their sleeves to raise around £250 for a local charity that supports bereaved parents.

In support of A Child of Mine, Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) staff made the most of the good weather to turn the organisation's car park into a temporary car wash.

The impromptu car fundraiser was organised by the Organisational Development Team, with colleagues from across the housing association wielding buckets, sponges and jet washers in aid of a worthy cause.

Now they've swapped the buckets of water for buckets of cash that will be used to support a charity that was founded by local mum, Gayle Routledge, who lost her own son to a rare form of childhood cancer.

Jo Hough, Assistant Director of Organisational Development at SARH, explained: "A Child of Mine is our adopted charity for 2016, and so far we have already raised over £1,000 through a series of events, and we have many more planned for the remainder of the year.

"SARH has always been keen to support charities that are important to the communities we serve and, as we celebrate our tenth anniversary as Stafford's leading provider of affordable housing, we are hoping to break our own fundraising records.

"I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us with this latest event, either by getting stuck in with sponge and bucket, or just turning up to have their car cleaned. It turned out to be great fun, and we certainly had the weather for it!"
