Employees at a Stafford-based company have been proving they're ‘boxing fit' as part of a fun challenge to promote a staff benefits scheme.

Precision plumbing components firm Altecnic has enjoyed rapid expansion in recent years, and its employees have played a key role in its ongoing success. In recognition of their efforts, the company has teamed up with Paycare to help them pay for everyday healthcare such as dentist bills and chiropody.

To help promote the scheme, Paycare set the employees the challenge of seeing how many punches they could land in 30 seconds, with an electronic fitness track offered up as a first prize and free sports drinks bottles to all who took part.

With the world record standing at 308 punches, Stephen Elsmore topped the Altecnic table with 163 punches to the delight of colleagues at the firm's head office and distribution centre in Mustang Drive.

Lesley Bateman, Altecnic HR Manager, explained that the competition aimed to raise awareness of the Paycare scheme and to make sure staff made the most of the benefits available.

"At Altecnic we recognise that our employees are our most important asset, and we've found that enrolling them on schemes such as those offered by Paycare goes a long way to building staff loyalty and reducing absences through ill health," she said.

Nichola Mumford, Corporate Account Manager at Paycare, added: "By paying for employees to join Paycare, businesses such as Altecnic can also enjoy higher levels of staff retention which in turn reduces recruitment costs."
