Knowles rises to the challenge for local charity

Berkshire-based basement construction company Knowles & Associates is sponsoring a 120km Charity Walk from coast to coast across Scotland, including a 10,000ft mountain trek, in aid of the Ascot-based charity, Sunningdale Hope Trust.

A director of Knowles will also take part in The Great Glen Challenge, organised by the Sunningdale Hope Trust, which sees over 25 participants walk 120km across Scotland from coast to coast; from Fort William to Inverness, along the length of the Caledonian Canal, Loch Lochy and the famous Loch Ness. The week-long route includes a challenging climb up Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, as well as three other munroes (Scottish mountains) en-route, and will exceed an impressive 10,000-feet of climbing on top of the distance walked.

Alan Everett, a director of Knowles and also a Trustee of the Sunningdale Hope Trust, is taking on the trek in order to fundraise for Scott Gerred, a young employee who was recently paralysed from the waist down following a motorbike accident. Scott needs funds to purchase an off-road wheelchair to assist with his mobility and allow him to travel more freely and will be one of many to receive grants from the sponsorship raised by the challenge.

“Scott worked for us prior to his accident, we are really pleased that after a period of rehabilitation he is now able to re-join us and feel honoured to have been able to support him through this process,” says Alan. “Sponsoring the transport costs for The Great Glen Challenge will further help in fundraising for Scott, but also means we can assist the other participants in the Challenge who are aiming to collectively raise over £15,000 during the week long walk.”

The Sunningdale Hope Trust was established to support the local community in Ascot, Berkshire, providing financial assistance to individuals or groups in immediate need of support. The charity organises events and sponsored activities such as walks, marathons, performances and parties in order to raise money.

Knowles offices have been based in Ascot, since the company’s inception in 2010. Members of the company have worked closely with the Sunningdale Hope Trust on several occasions, supporting and participating in previous fundraising events such as the Three Peaks Challenge in 2012.

“Over the last 5 years we have supported the Sunningdale Hope Trust, helping them to raise the best part of £100,000 for local causes,” adds Alan. “It’s a good cause, close to our hearts and one that we feel benefits the Ascot community greatly.”

The Great Glen Challenge will take place from the 20th August to the 27th. To enquire about sponsorship, please call Alan Everett on 07785 567 978 or visit http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/fundraiser/alan-everett/great-glen-challenge
