CHARITY YOGATHON FOR LOCAL MAN EXPECTS UP TO 1000 PEOPLE AT CHELTENHAM'S BREWIN DOLPHIN CRICKET FESTIVAL

Up to 1000 people are expected on The College ground cricket pitch in the evening of Saturday July 16th in support for Hiren Joshi, a well known face about town who is currently battling with Pancreatic Cancer, as part of the annual Brewin Dolphin Cricket Festival. Shares of the proceeds from the event will be given to his chosen charity Pancreatic UK and the new Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospital Charity to support their campaign 'Hit Cancer for Six'.

Yogis and anyone who would like to try yoga have the opportunity to be part of the crowd that that will fill Cheltenham College cricket pitch this summer. The event is led by yoga expert Sarah Jane Griffiths (SJ) and her brand ‘The Yoga Rebel'.

SJ says: ‘The concept is for something very special, for someone very special, and for people to experience Strala yoga in this kind of environment is unique. This is my passion and it's great to have other professionals on board to give a taste of their styles, so the event will be an awesome collaboration of tuition offering participants nearly 3 hours of stretching, bending and exercise, with options for all levels of fitness. The evening session will take place after the cricket on Saturday 16th July and will be the first Cheltenham has ever seen of this size.'  

The yoga team are Roman from Ella and Fleur; Tom Burlinson from Fitness First; Karen Maidment from Pure Body Balance; Evelyn Cribbin from Studio 13, all of whom are yoga teachers in the Gloucestershire area. SJ says: ‘I wanted to support my friend Hiren Joshi who is a familiar face in Cheltenham, known for his style, charisma and loved by many. Hiren is facing treatment for Pancreatic Cancer, and in the spirit of boldness and courage, Hiren has been voicing his journey on Facebook over the past months. Thousands of friends and supporters share and react to his posts about his chemo, his feelings, and his ongoing endeavours.

‘Hiren was always been the life and soul, with an incredible smile. Now he is fighting for his life and I am delighted to be part of the massive momentum of love and support that is happening throughout our county to give him more strength. Hiren and his family will be compiling the playlist of his favourite ever tracks and the best part is that these will be played during the event. Participants will feel energised, strengthened and we hope that the event will go down in history to be the county's largest Yogathon at the longest running cricket festival in the world.'

SJ approached Gill Kirkham of Rare Event who is currently Head of Sales and Marketing for Cheltenham Cricket Festival 2016 about holding The Yogathon and both were thrilled when Will Brown Chief Executive and The Gloucestershire County Ground agreed to hold the event as part of the new look Cheltenham Cricket Festival.

Gill says: ‘The festival has a new vibe for 2016 that is all about vitality, with, shops, entertainment, food and drink during the 12 day festival. With free entry in the evenings for visitors to enjoy the grounds and soak up the atmosphere, this is festival for everyone.
