EDDIE THE EAGLE OPENS THE NEW SLALOM SKI SLOPE AT SANDOWN SPORTS CENTRE, ESHER AND HOSTS INAUGURAL DUAL SLALOM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sandown Sports Centre was delighted to welcome Eddie the Eagle on Sunday to open the NEW Slalom Ski Slope and start the inaugural Dual Slalom Ski Championships where over 100 teenage skiers, from more than 15 local ski clubs, competed to be crowned the first champions on Sunday May 22^nd2016.

Peter Le Masurier, one of the new owners of Sandown Sport said: "Sandown Sports ski slope has already produced a number of Olympic skiers and on Sunday we watched some amazing young athletes loving this sport.

He continues "this event was a fantastic way to bring local clubs together to compete, local businesses who provide home grown food and beverages and share in the joy of sport. We have made lots of changes to Sandown Sports in the last few months and this will continue as we focus on the social area of the club, bar and café, and the changing and fitness areas."

The Results were as follows:

Group B Final was won by Cranmore who beat Danes Hill.

Group A needed a race off between Cranmore and Surbiton to decide who would meet Reeds in the final. Cranmore won the race off. A thrilling final race saw Cranmore crowned champions and winners of the Dual Slalom Championships 2016

Sandown Sports was bought by the Commercial Investment Group in February 2016 and the slalom slope is part of an extensive refurbishment project to realise their vision to encourage more young people to try different sports, get inspired and active. Offering skiing and squash alongside Esher's only gym, renovations are in full swing with 2 out of 3 brand new squash courts already in use. Further upgrades to the changing rooms, bar and the installation of a new fitness and spin studio due for completion this summer.

Sandown Sports centre vision is to become the number one sports venue in surrey for skiing and squash, whilst offering the local community a come to place for gym, fitness training and family fun.
