East Yorkshire farm machinery business gains contract to supply Swiss tillage system

An East Yorkshire farm machinery importer has been awarded sole UK and Ireland distributor status for leading Swiss agricultural machinery brand, Baertschi.

Manterra Ltd will preview theBaertschiOekoSem IV ROTOR-Strip-Till System at its Demonstration Days on its Market Weighton farm from 24thto 26thMay ahead of the official launch at Cereals 2016 next month.

Of the launch, Manterra founder, Andrew Manfield said: "The OekoSem IV ROTOR-Strip-Till System is a unique three in one tillage, sowing and fertiliser system that was designed and built to withstand Northern European conditions.

"Its ability to perform several operations simultaneously means lower production costs and fuel consumption per tonne of production, whilst its strip cultivation leaves 60% of the soil surface undisturbed and prevents soil erosion and sedimentation problems. Reduced soil compaction also results in increased yields."

Available in a number of row widths, the Oekosem is suitable for a wide range of crops. Other features of the OekoSem IV ROTOR-Strip-Till System include aPTO driven rotor for effective tilling and consistently perfect seed bed.The close integration of the subsoiler leg with the tillage rotor ensures blockage free operation and compaction removal so that plant roots can access the soil's nutrients and water easily. A stainless steel applicator for solid fertiliser can be integrated totally with the cultivator.

Andrew Manfield added: "I have high hopes for theBaertschiOekoSem IV ROTOR-Strip-Till System. It has been proven in Europe for many years and has delivered consistently higher yields and lower production costs. The system also has great synergy with the work that we are doing on wide row spraying technology and complements our Unia and Trimble ranges."

Manterra is also an authorised reseller for Duport spoke wheel injectors and is the key technology supplier to the Stockbridge Technology Centre's Tru-Nject project that has secured Innovate UK funding for a three year trial to commercialise innovative soil nutrient mapping technology that has the potential to revolutionise farming practices.
