Hoppecke welcomes renewable energy report findings

Hoppecke Industrial Batteries - the leading specialist in energy storage systems and the largest battery manufacturer in European ownership - has welcomed the announcement that greater use of renewable energy has enabled the world's carbon dioxide emissions to level off for the second year running.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), this levelling off occurred in both 2014 and 2015, even though the global economy expanded by 3.4% and 3.1% in the respective years. A significant factor in 2015 was that roughly 90% of new electricity generated it that year came from renewable sources and across Europe CO2emissions dropped by hundreds of millions of tonnes. At the same time, use of fossil fuels fell dramatically, especially in the USA and China.

In the UK, Prime Minister David Cameron told MPs that Britain was leading the way in ultra-low emissions and experiencing one of the strongest growths in renewable energy in Europe. He reckoned the UK was the second best country in the world at tackling climate change - with greenhouse gases dropping by 14% in the last six years - and that by 2020 at least 30 per cent of Britain's power would be produced from renewable sources.

Hoppecke Industrial Batteries' Managing Director Jason Howlett commented: "This is great news that renewable energy sources continue to stave off climate change and the best way of ensuring this continues is to store the energy that is produced so that it can be used when it is needed. For many years, households and businesses have been using Hoppecke's energy storage technology to improve efficiency in this way and to cut down on waste. This report confirms what Hoppecke has known for many years - that the future belongs to manageable and affordable renewable energy."
