Taking a snip for charity

Two members of CNWL's Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service have had their long flowing locks cut off for a good cause.

Dental officer Aiysha Kanji (left), 25, and Samantha Burke have had about 50cms of hair cut off between them for the "Little Princess Trust", which makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

The duo, who have been long-haired all their lives, undertook the chop after work on Friday, 4 March at the Eaglestone Health Centre, Standing Way, when Samantha's hairdresser Debbie came over specially to deliver the chop to the ladies' hair.

Lead Dental Nurse Samantha, 31 said: "It feels strange. I almost feel like a new woman. I am embracing the change for this good cause."

Natalie Bell, Head of Operations, said: "I'm so proud of both of the girl's commitment to this wonderful cause and even prouder to have them in the team.

"They are a credit to the service and their actions really confirm the recent CQC report outlining that the service were outstanding in caring."

Speaking before the haircut, Samantha said: "As we all know, hair loss is one side effect of cancer treatment and this can have psychological impacts. We want to help little boys and girls find the courage to continue in their fight against cancer and to gain some happiness in their lives. Donating our locks will go some way towards helping a little boy or girl find the strength to face the world."

Aiysha added: "We've both got long hair and love our flowing locks so we won't deny that this will be a shock, however it's far more important for us to see our donation go to someone who really needs it."
