£2,207,000cash boost for West Yorkshire Urgent and Emergency Care Vanguard.

West Yorkshire Urgent and Emergency Care (WYUEC) Vanguardhas received £2,207,000 of funding for its part in a national NHS programme aimed at transforming the way health and care is delivered across England.

The money has been given to WYUEC as one of the selected ‘vanguards' for the new care models programme which is playing a key part in the delivery of the Five Year Forward View - the vision for the future of the NHS.

Vanguards are leading on developing new care models that will act as blueprints for the future of the health and care system in England.

There are 50 vanguards across the country which will deliver an array of benefits for patients including providing care closer to where people live, for instance blood tests, dialysis or chemotherapy.

The money, which covers the year 2015/16, is being drawn from a national £200 million NHS transformation fund. Vanguards are also receiving practical assistance as part of a package of national support announced in the summer to enable them to make the changes they want at pace.

Chris Dowse, Chair of the Vanguard and Chief Officer, North Kirklees CCG said:

"In West Yorkshire, the Vanguard wants to build on local transformational plans to go further and faster. There will be a particular focus on ambulance services - building on current expertise and recognising that the service is about mobile treatment at home as well as patient transport. The Vanguard will also focus on mental health services to improve and strengthen crisis response, as the needs of these patients impact across the entire urgent and emergency care system including social services and the police."

Samantha Jones, Director - New Care Models Programme, said:

"We are pleased to be able to provide WYUEC Vanguardwith both financial and practical support. The changes they have planned will help deliver a raft of benefits for patients, local people and staff. We are also supporting them to help spread good practice across the wider NHS and social care community."

The West Yorkshire Urgent and Emergency Care Vanguard is the largest of the eight Urgent and Emergency Care Vanguards, involving 11 CCGs, six acute trusts, three mental health trusts, 366 GP practices, community providers and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

The NHS Five Year Forward View is a partnership between NHS England, Monitor, the Care Quality Commission, The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), Health Educational England, Public Health England and the NHS Trust Development Authority.
