East Yorkshire beef business shortlisted for farming award

The team behind an innovative beef business are celebrating after reaching the final of the Northern Farmer Awards.

Tibthorpe based The Yorkshire Wagyu Company has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Achievement category of the third Northern Farmer Awards that were established to recognise the work that Northern farmers, suppliers and breeders do throughout the year.

Director Jonathan Shepherd is very proud to be shortlisted: "We're very proud that our farming achievements have been recognised with a place in the final and we're looking forward to the awards ceremony."

Jenny Thompson, Publisher of The Northern Farmer, said: "The Northern Farmer Magazine is once again delighted to be championing Northern farming talent. These awards are so important to the North of England as they give well-deserved recognition to those working in the farming industry. Our Farmers do a tremendous job and run some fantastic businesses - something that should be celebrated!"

Tickets for The Northern Farmer Awards, to be held on Thursday, March 17 at Pavilions of Harrogate, can be purchased for £33 each by contactingpromotions@nne.co.uk.

After two years spent establishing one of the biggest herds of full blood and cross bred Wagyu beef in the UK, Wolds farmers Jonathan Shepherd and Jim Bloom launched The Yorkshire Wagyu Company in 2014 to sell their premium beef direct.

Wagyu beef originates from Japan where it is renowned for its exceptional flavour and melt in your mouth tenderness and its high levels of ‘good' monounsaturated fats that give the beef its characteristic marbling.

Jonathan Shepherd was recently commended for his grassland management when he won the Yorkshire Grassland Society Kirby Cup.

Yorkshire Wagyu is currently available on the menu at restaurants including Wolds Village, Bainton, Whites Restaurant, Beverley and the Wolds Inn at Huggate and retail packs are on sale at the Balloon Tree Farm Shop at Gate Helmsley.
