Equine heating from Herschel

Infrared heating directly heats solids without warming the air between the heater and the horse

Equine heating is well known in competition yards; for stables, tack rooms and arenas in winter, and after washing or before exercise. The idea of heating horses has risen in popularity over recent years as people look for alternatives to over-rugging; the result is that a variety of heating solutions can be seen in all sorts of equestrian premises.

One example is infrared heating which directly heats solids without warming the air between the heater and the horse. The technology is, hence, unlike fans, blowers and central heating; it feels like the warmth from the winter sun on a face or the heat from a coal fire.

The technology

Herschel produces heaters that are optimised especially for heat absorption by water which occurs specifically in the "far infrared" heat band - from 3 to 6 microns. Because of the need to dry equipment and animals; and because animal skin is 80% water, far infrared is the obvious choice for horses; it uses the least energy for optimum comfort.

Many other infrared equine heaters use emitters that produce a more intense "near" or "shortwave" infrared heat. The hotter heaters emit wavelengths which water does not absorb as efficiently and which animal skin has evolved to reflect. They also emit unnecessary light (which far infrared heaters do not). All these factors make other solutions less efficient and less comfortable, whilst consuming more power than they need to.

Why Herschel?

Herschel is the world authority on comfort heating using far infrared. The company couples an unrivalled knowledge of far infrared with a comprehensive range of product packs designed to suit the different equine needs; heating stables, drying and rug rooms, heating sand schools and arenas, and warming and drying the horse.

These products are backed by an unbeatable combination of price, ease of installation and the many benefits of infrared heating.
